Berlin Packaging has an excellent track record for shipping on time, and is helping its customers’ supply chains run smoothly. The supplier has had 99 consecutive months of 99% on-time delivery for containers and closures warehoused on behalf of its customers, which is an industry milestone, according to Berlin. It is the only company to reveal its on-time delivery statistics, after becoming the first rigid packaging supplier to measure and publicly report its on-time shipping performance in 2004.

“We formalized the 99% on-time delivery target as a mandatory Quality Objective in our ISO 9001 program,” said Andrew Berlin, Chairman and CEO. “We are committed to providing the best delivery experience to our customers, and we reinforce that commitment through our ISO process.”

How do they do it? Berlin says its logistics capabilities are due in part to its multimillion-dollar investment in technology. The company’s PeopleSoft enterprise business software has built-in forecasting algorithms that enable company personnel to proactively monitor and manage inventory flow. The system anticipates and accommodates fluctuations in each customer’s packaging needs, guaranteeing an adequate supply of warehoused items, even when there are spikes in demand for a container or increases in factory lead times.

Berlin Packaging credits this successful shipping track record with being a major driver in the company’s growth. Its annual revenues have risen from $80 million in 1988, to $700 million in 2012.
